At the end of a recent visit with the doctor in prep for a procedure, I received prior instructions for the following week and was stunned to see the word obese. I don’t consider myself overweight by any stretch of the imagination, and neither do I think any of my friends and family would. Most people don’t believe me when I tell them how much I weigh. At the same time, when I calculate my fat percentage on any BMI calculator, it said obese.
Anyway, the paper from my doctor’s office did get my attention. I know I am overweight for my age and height. Two other doctors that I needed to lose some weight. That was a wake-up call for me. I decided that it was time to stop talking about getting fit and healthy and do it.
I know I need to take better care of my health, so why is it so hard to stick to eating right, exercising, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and eating enough fruits and vegetables? Why is it so much easier to grab food that isn’t that healthy, drink unhealthy liquids, stay up late, or get by without exercise?
I have spent years participating in more of these bad habits than I care to admit. I knew I needed a little motivation and accountability. I’m sure some of you do too, so have chosen for my motto, “No more excuses”. To improve my health and fitness goals, I need to break some old habits.
No Quick Fixes
Many cannot make life changes because they want quick fixes. That’s why there are so many rapid weight loss diets and supplements, miracle exercises, fantastic weight loss belts, bands, and suits. Another reason some fail is because they are not patient and try to change many things all at once. So, I have decided to take it slow and make little changes at a time, until they become habits. I will share some valuable tips with you along the way.
